For many years, members of Dermatologist Medical Group of North County have been honored by the San Diego County Medical Society in conjunction with San Diego Magazine as Top Doctors in the region. Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners

Physician Assistants (P.A.) and Nurse Practitioners (N.P.) are licensed and highly skilled healthcare professionals. They are both trained to provide patient evaluation, education and healthcare services while working closely with a physician.


  • Robert Scheinberg, M.D.

    Dr. Scheinberg, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, is a co-founder of Dermatologist Medical Group of North County. After completing his medical training in New York, Dr. Scheinberg moved to San Diego in 1976. Dr. Scheinberg's areas of interest are varied and include Mohs micrographic surgery, sports-related skin disorders, immunologic diseases and cosmetic dermatology. He is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Scheinberg has served as past president of the San Diego Society for Dermatologic Surgery. Hobbies are skiing, hiking in the mountains, running and tennis.

  • Susan Shimomaye, M.D.

    Dr. Shimomaye, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 1988. She received her undergraduate biology degree and her medical degree at UCLA. She completed a three year internal medicine residency in Los Angeles and a three year dermatology residency at U.C. Irvine. She is especially interested in dermatologic surgery, including Mohs micrographic surgery, and general medical dermatology. Dr. Shimomaye is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego. She is also an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.

  • Alice Liu, M.D., PhD

    Dr. Liu, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and Subspecialty Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery, is a graduate of Princeton University and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she received her M.D. degree, and a Ph.D degree in the department of Molecular Biology and Immunology. She completed her internship in internal medicine and her residency in dermatology at the UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Liu is a voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Liu is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, San Diego Dermatological Society, and the San Diego Society for Dermatologic Surgery, of which she is a past president and past secretary-treasurer. She is also a Fellow with the American Society for Mohs Surgery.  She enjoys practicing general, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology at DMG, where she has been since 2000.

  • Sherry Rotunda, M.D.

    Dr. Rotunda, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2001. Dr. Rotunda, originally from Virginia, received her undergraduate degree from Drew University in 1993. Her medical education was completed in Pennsylvania, first at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine for medical school and then at Thomas Jefferson University for residency. Dr. Rotunda enjoys building long term relationships with her patients in order to help them love the skin they are in. Caring for all ages and entire families means treating both minor dermatologic conditions like warts and acne and more significant and chronic diseases such as autoimmune skin disease and skin cancer. Dr. Rotunda is experienced with the newer biologic medications for psoriasis and eczema as well as Moh's micrographic surgery for skin cancer.

  • Michelle Jackson, M.D.

    Dr. Jackson, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Pathology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2012. Dr. Jackson earned her undergraduate degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and her M.D. degree from Morehouse School of Medicine, where she graduated first in her medical school class and was inducted to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Jackson completed her internship at the University of Alabama, Birmingham and her dermatology residency training at the University of California, San Diego. She then completed her dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Texas, Southwestern, Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Dr. Jackson’s areas of interest are dermatopathology, dermatologic surgery, cosmetic dermatology, and medical dermatology, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, and skin cancer screening and treatment.

  • Susan Detwiler, M.D.

    Dr. Detwiler, board certified in Dermatology and Dermatopathology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2003. Dr. Detwiler is an alumna of The Bishop's School in La Jolla, where she was co-salutatorian of her high school class. She graduated magna cum laude with a major in Molecular Biology from Princeton University and returned to California for medical school at the University of California, Los Angeles followed by an internship in internal medicine, also at UCLA. After her residency in dermatology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she completed a fellowship in dermatopathology at Stanford University. Dr. Detwiler's areas of interest include dermatopathology, acne, skin cancers and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Detwiler is a Voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Diego.

  • Alina Goldenberg, M.D.

    Dr. Goldenberg, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2019. Originally from Kiev, Ukraine, Dr. Goldenberg grew up in San Francisco. She received her undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley, where she majored in Public Health, graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She speaks English, Russian, and Spanish. Dr. Goldenberg earned her medical degree and a Master’s in Clinical Research at UC San Diego. Also, at UC San Diego, in addition to an Internal Medicine internship and Dermatology Residency, she served as Chief Resident. Dr. Goldenberg has received multiple grants and awards, including from the American Skin Association and National Institutes of Health. She has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and three chapters on the subjects of allergic contact dermatitis, cutaneous oncology, surgical dermatology, laser treatments and sun exposure. Her clinical expertise and interests include allergic contact dermatitis and patch testing, skin cancer screening and dermatologic surgery, medical dermatology (acne, eczema, and psoriasis), and cosmetic dermatology, including non-invasive procedures and laser therapy.

  • Christine Finnin, M.D.

    Dr. Finnin, board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2022. Originally from New York, Dr. Finnin received her undergraduate degree at Cornell University, where she majored in Biological Sciences, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Finnin earned her medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University where she was inducted as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society. She then completed an internship in internal medicine at Montefiore New Rochelle followed by her residency in dermatology at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center in Manhattan. Her clinical expertise and interests include medical dermatology and skin cancer detection and treatment. In her spare time, Dr. Finnin enjoys cooking and trying new foods and staying active by hiking and scuba diving.

  • David Greene, M.D.

    Dr. David Greene is a native of San Diego, CA. A graduate of Torrey Pines High School and of the University of California, Santa Cruz, he was awarded his MD in 2004 from the nation’s military medical school, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Following medical school, he completed his internship at Naval Medical Center, San Diego and then entered training at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute, where he was designated a Naval Flight Surgeon. He was assigned as Squadron Flight Surgeon to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269, and completed two seven month combat deployments to Operation Iraqi Freedom receiving the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and earning designation as a Fleet Marine Force Qualified Officer. He was subsequently selected for additional training at the Naval Undersea Medical Institute and Naval Dive and Salvage Training Center where he earned qualification as a Diving and Undersea Medical Officer. He was then assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team One, where he directed medical support of Naval Special Warfare and Submarine Operations and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal as well as designation as a Submarine Medical Officer. He completed his residency in Radiation Oncology at UC Davis Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. He received additional sub-specialty training in brachytherapy in 2013 through the American Brachytherapy Society Scholarship Award. He was awarded the California State Medal of Merit in 2016 for his service as special advisor for radiation safety and radiation disaster response to the Commanding General of the California State Military Reserve. Dr. Greene believes that every patient deserves to understand their diagnosis, their treatment options, and to have individually tailored care for the treatment and cure of their cancer that maximizes quality and quantity of life. His areas of practice and expertise include treatment of cancers of the brain, head and neck, lung, gastrointestinal system, genitourinary system, lymphatic system, skin, bone, and soft-tissue utilizing linear accelerator based external beam radiation therapy (3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy, volumetric modulated arc radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, and stereotactic body radiation therapy); image guided interstitial, intracavitary, and surface brachytherapy; surface radiation therapy; as well as radiation therapy for treatment of benign conditions. In his free time, Dr. Greene enjoys being out and about in the natural beauty of the West Coast with his family.

  • Alexandra Edelman, M.D.

    Alexandra Beth Edelman, M.D. is a double board-certified dermatologist and Mohs micrographic surgeon. Dr. Edelman’s areas of special interests include prevention and early detection of skin cancer, Mohs surgery, dermatologic surgery, cosmetic rejuvenation, and laser therapy. She is passionate about helping patients look and feel their best. Dr. Edelman completed her undergraduate degree at University of Michigan, graduating Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Edelman was top of her class in medical school at George Washington University and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Edelman went on to complete her internship year at UCLA and residency training in dermatology at University of Louisville where she was Chief Resident. She acquired additional training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, facial reconstruction, laser and cosmetic dermatology through her fellowship in Procedural Dermatology at Washington University.

    As a San Diego native, Dr. Edelman is thrilled to come back home. Outside of the office, Dr. Edelman is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys pickleball, hiking, zumba, cooking, and time with her friends and family.

  • Mitzi Bray, MSPAS, P.A.-C

    Ms. Bray joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2002, and has many years of specialized dermatology experience. Ms. Bray is a native of California who received her undergraduate education at Westmont College and her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from Western University of Health Sciences.

  • Amanda McConnell, MSPAS, P.A.

    Ms. McConnell joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2003, and has many years of specialized dermatology experience. Ms. McConnell is a California native who received her undergraduate education at California Polytechnic State University of San Luis Obispo and her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Western University of Health Sciences.

  • Melissa Janovitch, MSPAS, P.A.-C

    Ms. Janovitch joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2013, and has many years of specialized dermatology experience. She graduated with a Masters in Science from the Physician Assistant program at Loma Linda University in California. Ms. Janovitch is now living in San Diego, after relocating from her hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada where she began her career in dermatology in 2009. Ms. Janovitch is a fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and is a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.

  • Susan McKim, MS, P.A.-C

    Susan McKim is a board-certified Physician Assistant who joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2021 and has over 13 years of specialized dermatology experience. She received her undergraduate degrees from UC San Diego, where she double majored in Biology and Psychology and has an area of concentration in French culture. Susan earned her Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant practice from the Chicago Medical School/Finch University of Health Sciences in 2000. She also received the departmental thesis research award. She is a member of the California Academy of Physician Assistants and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistant. She completed her dermatology diplomate fellowship in 2020. Her clinical expertise and interests include skin cancer screening and dermatologic surgery, medical dermatology (acne, eczema, and psoriasis) and cosmetic dermatology, including Botox, chemical peels and laser therapy. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, swimming, traveling, gardening, boogey boarding with her kids and walking her dogs on the beaches of Del Mar.

  • Naomi Travers, DCNP
    Naomi Travers, DCNP

    Naomi Travers is a seasoned Dermatology Certified Nurse Practitioner with over 23 years of experience. In 2000, she earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree with a focus in geriatric care from University of California, San Francisco. She started her career as a geriatric nurse practitioner at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. Her passion for dermatology took her to Australia, the world’s epicenter of skin cancer diseases where she worked as a laser specialist at the Skin and Cancer Foundation for over 10 years. In 2015, she moved to San Diego and has since provided treatment and management of a full spectrum of dermatology conditions. She believes in the importance of approaching each treatment as a partnership and enjoys educating her patients about their individual concerns. Naomi speaks English and Spanish.
