Robert Scheinberg, M.D.

Dr. Scheinberg, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, is a co-founder of Dermatologist Medical Group of North County. After completing his medical training in New York, Dr. Scheinberg moved to San Diego in 1976. Dr. Scheinberg's areas of interest are varied and include Mohs micrographic surgery, sports-related skin disorders, immunologic diseases and cosmetic dermatology. He is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Scheinberg has served as past president of the San Diego Society for Dermatologic Surgery. Hobbies are skiing, hiking in the mountains, running and tennis.

Steven Leshaw, M.D.

Dr. Leshaw, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, is a co-founder of Dermatologist Medical Group of North County. He is a native of New York who came to North County in 1975 after serving as chief resident in dermatology at the New York University Skin and Cancer Center. Dr. Leshaw has a special interest in treating skin cancer through multiple techniques, including Mohs micrographic surgery. He is also a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Leshaw has served as past president of the San Diego Society for Dermatologic Surgery. Susan Shimomaye, M.D.

Dr. Shimomaye, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 1988. She received her undergraduate biology degree and her medical degree at UCLA. She completed a three year internal medicine residency in Los Angeles and a three year dermatology residency at U.C. Irvine. She is especially interested in dermatologic surgery, including Mohs micrographic surgery, and general medical dermatology. Dr. Shimomaye is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego. She is also an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. Selected as a TOP DOCTOR in Dermatology in 2007 and 2010, by peers.




Alice Liu, M.D., PhD

Dr. Liu, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, is a graduate of Princeton University and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she received her Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy in Molecular Biology and Immunology. After completing a one-year internship in internal medicine, Dr. Liu completed a three-year residency in dermatology at the UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Liu is a voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Liu is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, San Diego Dermatological Society, and the San Diego Society for Dermatologic Surgery, of which she is a past president and past secretary-treasurer. She is also a Fellow with the American Society for Mohs Surgery, and a member of the North American Clinical Dermatologic Society. Sherry Rotunda, M.D.

Dr. Rotunda, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2001. Dr. Rotunda, originally from Virginia, received her undergraduate degree from Drew University in 1993. Her medical education was completed in Pennsylvania, first at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine for medical school and then at Thomas Jefferson University for residency. Dr. Rotunda's areas of interest include pediatric dermatology, acne, immunologic skin diseases and dermatologic surgery, including Mohs micrographic surgery. Judith Koperski, M.D.

Dr. Koperski, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 1998 after practicing with Scripps Clinic for 11 years. Dr. Koperski is originally from the Midwest and came to California in 1977 to attend Stanford University as an undergraduate. Dr. Koperski has several areas of particular interest including hair disorders and treatment of spider and varicose veins. She is an active member of the San Diego Dermatological Society and the North American Clinical Dermatological Society. She is a past president of the San Diego Dermatological Society, the vice president of the prestigious North American Clinical Dermatological Society (2005), and the chief of dermatology at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla (2005). She is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego. Susan Detwiler, M.D.

Dr. Detwiler, board certified in Dermatology and Dermatopathology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2003. Dr. Detwiler worked in the San Diego area for seven years before joining DMG. Dr. Detwiler is an alumna of The Bishop's School in La Jolla, where she was co-salutatorian. She graduated from Princeton University and returned to California for medical school at the University of California, Los Angeles. After completing her residency in dermatology in North Carolina, she again returned to California for a fellowship in dermatopathology at Stanford University. Dr. Detwiler's areas of interest include dermatopathology, acne, skin cancers and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Detwiler is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Diego.




David Thomas, M.D.

Dr. Thomas, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2005. Dr. Thomas, a native of California, received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed his residency at the University of California, San Francisco in 1994, where he served as Chief Resident, and moved to San Diego where he served at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton as Director of Medical Services and Chief of the Medical Staff. Dr. Thomas’ varied interests include treatment of acne, eczema, psoriasis, abnormal moles and MOHS micrographic surgery for skin cancer. Dr. Thomas has served as past president of the San Diego Society for Dermatologic Surgery.



Deidre Buddin, M.D.

Dr. Buddin, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group in 2008, after practicing in La Jolla since 2004. Dr. Buddin is a San Diego native who received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and her M.D. degree from New York Medical College where she graduated first in her medical school class. Dr. Buddin completed her internship in internal medicine at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City. She completed her dermatology residency at the University of California at Los Angeles where she served as Chief Resident and received the outstanding dermatology resident of the year award two years in a row. Dr. Buddin's areas of specialty include cosmetic dermatology, laser surgery, and medical dermatology, including acne, eczema, skin cancer screening and treatment. Dr. Buddin has served as the secretary-treasurer of the San Diego Society for Dermatologic Surgery.



Curt Vogel, M.D.

Dr. Vogel, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2008, after practicing in Denver, Colorado since 2007. Dr. Vogel, a native of Colorado, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona and his medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Dr. Vogel completed his internship in Mayo Clinic – Scottsdale, Arizona. He completed his dermatology residency at the University of Wisconsin – Madison Hospital and Clinics in Madison, WI. Dr. Vogel’s areas of specialty include cosmetic dermatology, medical dermatology, and Mohs micrographic surgery. His interests include acne, eczema, and skin cancer screening and treatment.




Michelle Jackson, M.D.

Dr. Jackson, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Pathology, joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2012. Dr. Jackson earned her undergraduate degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and her M.D. degree from Morehouse School of Medicine, where she graduated first in her medical school class and was inducted to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Jackson completed her internship at the University of Alabama, Birmingham and her dermatology residency training at the University of California, San Diego. She then completed her dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Texas, Southwestern, Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Dr. Jackson’s areas of interest are dermatopathology, dermatologic surgery, cosmetic dermatology, and medical dermatology, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, and skin cancer screening and treatment.



Nicole Mau, M.D.

Dr. Mau joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2014. She is originally from Hawaii and received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Southern California. She then completed a pediatrics preliminary year and a three-year dermatology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Her interests include both adult and pediatric medical dermatology (including eczema, psoriasis, contact allergy, itching, acne, rosacea, etc.), cosmetic dermatology, skin cancer screening, and surgical dermatology, including Mohs micrographic surgery. She is especially interested in immunologic skin conditions and biologic therapies. Dr. Mau is an active member of the America Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.



Sheila Krishna, M.D.

Dr. Krishna joined the Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2014. Dr. Krishna is a native of Orange County, California. She received her undergraduate degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she double majored in bioengineering and foreign languages and graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors. Dr. Krishna received her medical degree at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her dermatology residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, and she served as Chief Resident in the Department of Dermatology. Dr. Krishna's areas of interest include complex medical dermatology, skin cancer screening and treatment, dermatologic surgery and cosmetic dermatology.



Mitzi Bray, P.A.

Ms. Bray joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2002, and has many years of specialized dermatology experience. Ms. Bray is a native of California who received her undergraduate education at Westmont College and her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from Western University of Health Sciences.







Amanda McConnell, P.A.

Ms. McConnell joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2003, and has many years of specialized dermatology experience. Ms. McConnell is a California native who received her undergraduate education at California Polytechnic State University of San Luis Obispo and her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Western University of Health Sciences.






Melissa Janovitch, P.A.

Ms. Janovitch joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County in 2013, and has many years of specialized dermatology experience. She graduated with a Masters in Science from the Physician Assistant program at Loma Linda University in California. Ms. Janovitch is now living in San Diego, after relocating from her hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada where she began her career in dermatology in 2009. Ms. Janovitch is a fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and is a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.
